Did you know that Kwanzaa was created by Cal State Long Beach professor, Dr. Maulana Karenga? Here are some great resources to learn more about the celebration:
Día De Los Muertos is a vibrant and festive tradition that celebrates the life of our loved ones who have passed on. During this celebration, families cook food that was enjoyed by their loved ones and retell stories to keep their memories alive. One colorful tradition includes the Ofrenda, where we put pictures of our family members who have passed, marigold flowers (also known as Cempasúchil), candles, food, and water.
This year PTA has put up our own ofrenda at Burcham! Students were welcome to bring pictures of their loved ones who have passed on and/or paper flowers they made with the help of our video tutorial add to our ofenda.
